Align the Print Head

If your printouts become grainy or blurry, or you see dark or light bands across them, you may need to align the print head.

Note:
Banding may also occur if your print head nozzles need cleaning.

You can align the print head using the control panel or your software.

Using the Control Panel

1.	Load a few sheets of plain paper in the main tray.

2.	Press the Home button until Setup is selected.

3.

Press OK.

4.	Press or to select Maintenance, then press OK. You see this screen:

5.	Select Head Alignment, then press OK.

6.	Press Start. The alignment sheet prints.

7.	Check the alignment pattern that prints. Find the pattern in each set that has the least visible vertical lines.

8.	Press , then press or to select the number of the best pattern in the first set and press OK.

9.	Press to select the next set, then repeat step 8 to select the best pattern for sets 2, 3, and 4.

10.	Press OK when you’re done.

11.	When you see the print head alignment complete screen, press OK.

From the Computer

1.	Load a few sheets of plain paper in the main tray.

2.	Windows: Right-click the printer icon in the bottom right corner of your screen (the taskbar) and select Print Head Alignment.

Macintosh:
Open the Applications folder, open the EPSON Printer Utility3, select Artisan 700 Series, and click OK. Then select Print Head Alignment.

3.	Follow the on-screen instructions to print an alignment sheet.

Note:
Do not press the Stop/Clear Settings button to cancel printing of the alignment sheet.

4.	Check the alignment patterns that print and compare them to the alignment criteria on your screen.

5.	Enter the number of the best pattern in each set (1 through 4).

Note:
If no patterns meet the criteria, choose the closest one and click Realignment. Then print another alignment sheet and check it.

6.	When you’re done, click Finish.
