After you create a document in a software program, follow these steps to print it using the basic printer settings:

Open the File menu and select Page Setup. You see the Page Setup window:

Select Stylus Photo 1400 in the Format for pop-up menu.

Open the File menu and select Print. You see a window like this one:

Select Stylus Photo 1400 in the Printer pop-up menu.

Select Print Settings from the pop-up menu.

The Quality setting on this screen gives you the best combination of quality and speed for most prints. For the best print quality on certain paper types, click Advanced and select Photo RPM. See Customizing Macintosh Print Settings for details.

Copies & Pages: Select the number of copies you want or a page range.
Layout: Select page layout options.
Output Options (Mac OS® X 10.2.8 or 10.3.9 only): Save your print job as a PDF file. In Mac OS X 10.4.x, click the PDF button instead.
Scheduler: Schedule your print job to print at a later time.
Paper Handling: Select page printing options, such as Reverse print order.
ColorSync or Color Management: Select ColorSync® or adjust the color controls or gamma setting, or turn off color adjustments in the printer software.
Note:
ColorSync works only with ColorSync-enabled applications.
Cover Page (certain Mac OS X versions only): Add a cover page before or after the document.
Expansion: Reduce or enlarge the image size for borderless printing. See Printing Borderless Photos for details.
Extension Settings: Select a wider platen gap if ink smears on sheets or envelopes.
Summary: View a list of all your selections.

To save your selections for future use, select Save As from the Presets pop-up menu.

Click Print.

To monitor the progress of your print job, click the printer icon when it appears in the dock on the bottom of your desktop.
If you’re using Mac OS X 10.2.8, click the Print Center icon instead, then double-click SP 1400 Series in the Printer List window.
You see a screen like this:
If necessary, you can do one of the following while monitoring the progress of your print job:
Click the print job, then click Hold to pause printing
Note: You can also press the  paper button on your printer to cancel printing.

Customizing Macintosh Print Settings
You can use advanced settings for color matching or printing at a higher resolution.
1.
On the Print Settings window, click Advanced and choose these settings as necessary:
Note:
When you select Photo RPM for the highest print quality, printing will take longer.

For more information about advanced settings, or instructions on saving them as a group so you can reuse them later, click the ? button.

To save your selections for future use, select Save As from the Presets pop-up menu.

Click Print.
