Buttons

The following table describes the functions of the control panel buttons.

Button

Description

Power button

Turns the printer on or off.

Cancel button

Releases the ink cover lock when an ink error has occurred.

Clears a print job in the printer’s memory if pressed and held for 3 seconds.

Returns the printer to the READY state when the printer is in Menu mode.

button

Returns to the previous level menu when pressed in Menu mode.

/Ink cover open button

Releases the ink cover lock if pressed and held for 3 seconds.

Changes a setting in reverse order when selecting settings in Menu mode.

/Paper feed button

Feeds the paper in the forward direction.

When the paper is loaded in the Auto Sheet Feeder or Manual Front slot, loads the paper to the printing position automatically, and Manual Rear slot back feeds the paper.

Loads a sheet from the paper source to the printing position automatically.

Changes settings when selecting settings in Menu mode.

Menu/ button

Enters Menu mode when pressed in the READY state. Selects the current menu in menu mode.

Enters the PRINTER STATUS menu if pressed during printing.

Cleans the print head if pressed and held for 3 seconds.

Enter button

Sets the selected setting in Menu mode.

Executes the item if the selected item is for execution only.

You can enter Maintenance mode by turning on the printer while holding down the Cancel button. See for more information.

Lights

The lights show the printer’s status and indicate errors.

Light

Description

power light solid green

The printer is in the READY status.

power light flashing green

The printer is printing.
The printer is cleaning the print head.
The printer is drying ink on the printed paper.

power light off

The printer is off.

paper light solid red

No paper is loaded in the paper source.
The loaded paper is too thick for head cleaning.

paper light flashing red

Paper is jammed.
Paper is not loaded straight.
Paper is not detected.
The paper was not ejected correctly.

ink light solid red

The installed ink cartridge is expended.
The installed ink cartridges cannot be used with this printer.
The maintenance cartridge is full.

ink light flashing red

The installed ink cartridge is low.
The maintenance cartridge is almost full.

If all the lights are flashing, the printer needs service. Contact your dealer or Epson for assistance. See .

Messages

The messages on the printer’s LCD show the printer’s current status or notify you of errors. The following table lists the status messages. For error messages, see Error messages.

Message

Description

READY

The printer is ready to print.

PRINTING

The printer is processing data.

INK DRYING

The printer is drying ink.

PLEASE WAIT

Wait until READY appears.

CHARGING INK

The printer is charging the ink delivery system.

RESETTING

The printer is being reset.

UPDATING FIRMWARE

The printer is updating the firmware.

FIRMWARE UPDATE

COMPLETE

The printer has finished updating the firmware.

CLEANING

The printer is cleaning the print head.

BLACK INK CHANGING

The printer is changing the black ink for Photo Black to Matte Black or from Matte Black to Photo Black.

RELEASING THE INK COVER LOCK

The printer is releasing the ink cover lock.

Note:
  • When an ink cartridge is low on ink, the abbreviation for the ink color appears (flashing) with the ink icon.

  • The ink icon and color abbreviation stay on when the ink cartridge is expended.

  • The Photo Black or Matte Black cartridge that is not in use appears as a dotted icon.

The maintenance cartridge icon flashes when the maintenance cartridge is almost full.
