Replacing the Ink Cartridges

Make sure you have your replacement cartridges handy before you begin. You must install new cartridges immediately after removing the old ones.
Note: Replace all expended ink cartridges. You cannot print if any of the ink cartridges are expended or any ink slots are empty.
Note: Epson recommends the use of genuine Epson ink cartridges. Epson cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-genuine ink. The use of non-genuine ink may cause damage that is not covered by Epson’s warranties, and under certain circumstances, may cause erratic printer behavior.
Caution:
Leave your old cartridges in the printer until you are ready to replace them to prevent the print head nozzles from drying out. Do not open ink cartridge packages until you are ready to install the ink. Cartridges are vacuum packed to maintain reliability. If you see a message to replace the White or Metallic Silver ink cartridges (SC-S80600), replace the ink cartridge immediately or you could damage the print head.
  1. Make sure the product is turned on.
  2. Lift the lock lever for the cartridge that needs replacing.

  3. Insert your finger into the depression on top of the ink cartridge and pull the cartridge straight out.

    Caution:
Be careful handling the ink cartridge as there may be ink around the ink supply port.
Warning: If ink gets on your skin, wash it thoroughly with soap and water. If ink gets into your eyes, flush them immediately with water. If ink gets into your mouth, spit it out and see a doctor right away. Keep ink cartridges out of the reach of children.
  4. Remove the new cartridge from the package. Then gently shake the cartridge for about 15 times within five seconds. If you are replacing an Orange, White, or Metallic Silver ink cartridge, shake it about 50 times within 15 seconds.

Note: Do not touch the green chip on the cartridge.
  5. Make sure the labels on the cartridge and product match, then insert the cartridge into the slot.

  6. Lower the lock lever.

Note: Dispose of used cartridges carefully. Do not take the used cartridge apart or try to refill it.
  7. Repeat these steps for any other ink cartridges that need replacing.
