Printer Settings Menu

Select Settings > General Settings > Printer Settings to customize paper and printing options.

Printing Language* USB

Network

Select the printing language to use for each connection mode

Auto: select for most printing situations

HP-GL/2: select if HP-GL/2 or HP RTL print data sent from a CAD application does not automatically switch the printing mode

Memory Device Interface Enable

Select Disable to prevent printing directly from a USB device
Thick Paper On

Select On to widen the platen gap to prevent scuffing if you are printing on thick paper

Select the number of times to automatically perform a print head check and cleaning when the printer turns on and before printing; selecting Off prevents the print head check and the automatic cleaning
Bidrectional On

Select On if you want the print head to move left and right during printing

Select Off to decrease misalignment of ruled lines, but slow down printing

PC Connection via USB Enable

Select Enable to allow access to the printer from a USB-connected computer
USB I/F Timeout Setting 5 to 300 seconds Specifies the length of time before ending communication from a USB-connected computer

*The Printing Language, Universal Print Settings, and HP-GL/2 Unique Settings menus can be locked by an administrator. If you cannot access or change these settings, contact your administrator for assistance.

Paper Source Settings

Setting Options Description
Error Notice Paper Size Notice

Paper Type Notice

Select On to display an error message when the output size or paper type settings are different between the driver and printer
Roll Paper Setup Detect Paper Meandering Select On to display an error message and stop printing if the printer detects the paper is skewed
Print Cutting Guideline Select On to print cut lines on roll paper (if Auto Cut is turned off)
Cut for Borderless Print Select Two Cuts to insert a margin and cut twice between pages; or One Cut to cut once between pages
Quick Cut Select On to cut once between pages while the next page is still printing
Cut Mode Select Quiet to reduce the speed and noise when cutting paper
Margin Refresh Select On to automatically remove ink stains from previous borderless prints by trimming the leading edge of the paper
Back Tension 2 Select the level of tension when the Back Tension setting is set to Extra High

Custom Paper Setting

Setting Options Description
Change Name Use the keyboard to enter a name for the custom paper setting (this name is displayed in the Paper Type list)
Change Reference Paper Various options Select the media type for the paper closest to the one you are using
Advanced Media Setting options
  Platen Gap Select a larger value if print results are smudged by print head strikes
  Top/Bottom Margins The Standard margins are as follows for the top and bottom:
  • CAD/line drawings: 3 mm
  • Other: 30 mm

Select a different value as necessary. Left and right margins are always 3 mm.

  Paper Suction Select this to adjust the distance between the paper and the print head; lower values for thinner papers.
  Back Tension Select High or Extra High if paper wrinkles during printing
  Drying Time Drying Time per Pass: Select from 0 to 10 seconds for the amount of time the print head pauses to allow drying after each pass

Drying Time per Page: Select from 0 to 60 minutes for the amount of time the printer pauses to allow drying after each page is printed

  Paper Size Check Select On to detect the paper width when paper is loaded

Select Off if a paper setting error occurs when paper is correctly loaded. If this setting is set to Off, the printer may print beyond the edges of the paper, causing ink to get on the printer.

  Auto Cut Select On to automatically cut roll paper after each page is printed, or select Off to cut paper manually
  Remove Skew Select On to enable paper skew reduction
Restore Default Restores the custom setting to the defaults

Universal Print Settings

Adjust these settings as necessary when printing in HP-GL/2 or HP RTL mode, or when using AirPrint.

Adds the value selected for the page margin outside the size selected for the base output size (when set to a standard size)

Page Margin 3 mm

Select the top, bottom, left, and right margin values for roll paper
Note: Margins are 3 mm for cut sheets regardless of the setting.
Smoothing On

Off

Select On to print at the maximum resolution for the selected paper type
Note: This may result in longer printing time or insufficient memory errors.
Base Output Size Various options When Auto (the default setting) is selected, the hard clip area of the PS command of the data becomes the base output size

Select User-Defined when printing in a custom size

Resolution Standard

Selects the print resolution; when Standard (the default setting) is selected, available resolutions depend on the selected paper type
Color Mode (Common) EPSON Standard (sRGB) Optimize the sRGB space and correct the color
Business Graphics Perform color correction to optimize your images based on the sRGB space
GIS Perform color correction when printing topographical maps
Line Drawing Perform color correction when printing CAD drawings and other line drawings
Off (No Color Management) No color correction is performed

HP-GL/2 Unique Settings

Adjust these settings as necessary when printing in HP-GL/2 or HP RTL mode.

Set the data coordinate origin
Mirror Image On Select to horizontally flip the image using the center of the output size width as the basis line
Off Select to print without flipping the image
Line Merge On Select to merge the intersection of overlapping lines within the image according to the MC command of the data
Off Select to move lines to be printed later to the front at intersections
Color Mode (HP-GL/2) EPSON Standard (sRGB) Optimize the sRGB space and correct the color
Business Graphics Perform color correction to optimize your images based on the sRGB space
GIS Perform color correction when printing topographical maps
Line Drawing Perform color correction when printing CAD drawings and other line drawings
Off (No Color Management) No color correction is performed
Select Palette Software Print according to the pen configurations set in the application and ignore the built-in printer palette
Default Print according to the built-in printer palette settings (logical pen with a pen width of 0.35 mm and 256 colors)
