Saving Files Directly with EPSON Scan

To save scanned images without editing, start EPSON Scan directly. After scanning images, the files are automatically saved to the folder specified in the File Save Settings dialog box.

Open the File Save Settings dialog box.

For Windows:
Click Start, point to All Programs (for Windows XP users) or Programs (for Windows Me, 98, or 2000 users) and then EPSON Scan and select EPSON Scan.

For Mac OS X users:
Click the EPSON Scan icon in the Applications folder.

For Mac OS 9.x:
Select EPSON Scan from the Apple menu.

Note:
If the Show this dialog box before next scan check box is clear, the File Save Settings dialog box does not appear automatically. To open the dialog box, click the arrow to the right of the Scan button and then select File Save Settings.

Specify a location where the scanned images are saved. If you want to change the default location, click Browse (for Windows) or Choose (for Macintosh) and select the desired folder.

Specify a file name with an alphanumeric character string (prefix) and a 3-digit number (start number).

If you want to change the file name, type an alphanumeric character string in the Prefix box and select a start number. The file name is generated with the combination of prefix and number specified here.

Note:
  • For Windows, the following characters cannot be used in the prefix.
    \, /, :, ., *, ?, ", <, >, |
  • For Macintosh, a colon (:) cannot be used in the prefix.
  • The number must be 3 digits. When saving with the MS -DOS 8.3 format, make sure the prefix does not exceed 5 alphanumeric characters.

Select a file format. See the following table for the file format. Depending on the selected file format, the Options button is available and you can make the details settings for the saving scanned image.

Format
(File Extension)

Explanation

BITMAP (*.BMP) (Windows only)

Standard image file format used in Windows. Most Windows application including word processing applications can read images in this format.

PICT (*.PCT) (Macintosh only)

Standard image file format for the Macintosh. Almost all of the software applications for the Macintosh (such as word processing software) support the PICT file format.

JPEG (*.JPG)

Compressed file format. The higher the compression is, the lower the image quality becomes. (Note that the original data cannot be restored.) In addition, quality deteriorates every time the image is saved. The TIFF format is recommended in cases where modification and retouching are required.

TIFF (*.TIF)

File format for exchanging data among many types of applications such as graphic and DTP applications. When scanning black & white images, you can specify a compression type.

PDF (*.PDF)

To read PDF documents in Windows or Mac OS 9, you need Adobe Acrobat® Reader®, Acrobat. Mac OS X reads PDF files natively. When you save color or grayscale images in PDF, you can select a compression quality.

Click OK.

EPSON Scan starts scanning.

The scanned image is automatically saved in the specified location.
