Print From Your Computer : Macintosh Printing (Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4) : Print in Black/Grayscale

Print in Black/Grayscale
If the color isn’t important in your document or image, you can print it using the Black/Grayscale option to conserve your color ink cartridges. This can be especially economical if you’ve installed an extra-high capacity black ink cartridge.
Note:
Some color ink will still be used during printing and to perform routine maintenance, such as print head cleaning.
You can select the Black/Grayscale option only when printing on plain paper, matte paper, or envelopes. This setting is not recommended for printing black-and-white photos.
