Placing Originals on the Scanner Glass

You can place originals directly on the scanner glass.
Caution:
Do not place heavy objects on the scanner glass and do not press on the glass with too much force, or it may damage the scanner. Do not leave photos on the scanner glass for an extended period, or they may stick to the glass.
  1. Open the document cover.

  2. Place your original facedown on the scanner glass with the top edge facing as shown. You can also place a large original or a thick document up to 0.6 inch [15 mm] thick on the scanner glass. Slide the original to the edges of the indicated corner.

Note: The edges of your original may be cropped by 0.06 inch (1.5 mm) from the edge of the scanner glass. Manually position your original away from the edges to prevent cropping.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Close the document cover gently to keep your original in place.

    • If you are scanning a book or other thick document, close the document cover and gently hold it down as you scan.

Note: If your thick original is curled at the edges, cover the edges with paper to block external light as you scan.
