Checking the Nozzles Using the Product Control Panel

You can check the print head nozzles using the control panel on your product.
  1. Make sure the CD/DVD tray is not inserted for printing.
  2. Load a few sheets of plain paper in the product.
  3. Press the home button, if necessary.
  4. Press the arrow buttons to select Setup, then press OK.
  5. Press the arrow buttons to select Maintenance, then press OK.


  6. Select Nozzle Check, then press OK.


  7. Press the  start button. The nozzle check pattern is printed.
  8. Check the printed pattern to see if there are gaps in the lines.

  9. Do one of the following:
    • If there are no gaps, the print head is clean. Select Done, then press OK.
    • If there are gaps or the pattern is faint, use the arrow buttons to select Clean the print head, then press OK.
  10. Follow the instructions on the screen to clean the print head.
If you don’t see any improvement after cleaning the print head up to 4 times, leave the product on and wait at least 6 hours. Then try cleaning the print head again. If quality still does not improve, one of the ink cartridges may be old or damaged and needs to be replaced.
