PictureMate lets you print photos quickly and easily without a computer. Just insert your digital camera's memory card, choose settings from the control panel, and press Print.
For details, see these sections:
Note: If you have a camera that supports PictBridge or direct printing, you can connect the camera's USB cable directly to PictureMate and control printing from your camera. See Printing From a PictBridge-Enabled Camera.
You can insert any of these types of memory cards into PictureMate:
Make sure the photo image files on your memory card meet these requirements:
Your PictureMate recognizes and prints the first 999 photos on your memory card.
Note: PictureMate supports P.I.M. (PRINT Image Matching) and Exif Print image enhancement features. See your camera manual to see if these features are included on your camera. PictureMate does not support progressive-scan JPEG or RAW images.
Most digital cameras create JPEG files. See your digital camera manual for details.
Note: Insert just one card at a time. PictureMate can't read multiple cards at once and you may not be able to tell which card PictureMate is taking the images from.
When you are ready to remove a memory card, make sure the memory card light is not flashing, then pull the card straight out of the slot.
Caution: Do not remove a card while the memory card light is flashing; you may lose photos on your card.
PictureMate's photo viewer screen makes it easy to select the photos you want to print.
You can choose from the following options for selecting photos:
Adding Fun Disney Frames to Your Photos
Viewing a Slideshow of Your Photos
Printing Camera-Selected DPOF Photos
By pressing the Menu button, you can choose from a variety of layouts, add a time or date stamp, fix photos that are too light or dark, and control many other aspects of printing. You can also use the and buttons to crop your photos. See Doing More With Your Photos for information about these features.
Note: When you press the Print button, PictureMate shows you a screen confirming the number of copies and layout. If you don't want to see the confirmation screen each time you print, you can turn it off.
You can easily view the photos on your memory card and select just the ones you want to print. When you turn on PictureMate, you see the photo selection menu on the screen. The red or orange bar at the top of the screen indicates the currently selected option:
Note: To view 9 photos at a time, press the button. Then press or to select the photos you want.
You see a blue box around your photo, indicating the area that will print. If you want to adjust this area, press the button. Then press or to move the box. Press the OK button, then press it again if you don't need to modify the print area again.
If you want to adjust the brightness, saturation, or sharpness of the photo, press the Menu button. See Fixing Photos for more information.
You can press the Menu button to adjust settings for all selected photos. See Doing More With Your Photos.
You can press or to review the photo or photos you have selected. If you change your mind, press Back.

You can choose a range (or sequence) of consecutive photos from your camera's memory card (for example, photos 7 through 12). Selecting a range is convenient because you don't have to choose each individual photo.
Note: The number you select will apply to all photos in the range.
If you want to adjust any settings, press the Menu button. See Doing More With Your Photos.
You can print photos taken on specific dates. If you have a lot of photos on your memory card, this makes it easier to find the ones you want.
A checkmark appears in the box for the date you selected. If you want to cancel your selection, press .
If you want to adjust any other settings, press the Menu button. Any settings you change will apply to all the photos you have selected. See Doing More With Your Photos.

Note: If your card has more than 20 photos, make sure that you have several sheets of paper loaded. When you see a message that paper is out, load more paper and press OK to continue printing. If you need to cancel printing, press Cancel.
PictureMate includes a selection of 15 different Disney character frames and two classic frames to choose from.
Note: All frames are designed to work with horizontal or "landscape" oriented photos.
If you want to fix your photo or change it to black and white or sepia, press the Menu button. See Fixing Photos or Printing Photos in Black and White or Sepia.
You can have PictureMate display all the photos on your card one by one.
If your camera supports DPOF (Digital Print Order Format), you can use it to pre-select which photos and how many copies you want to print.
See your camera's manual to choose photos for printing with DPOF, then insert your memory card in PictureMate. PictureMate automatically reads your pre-selected photos and displays this message:
DPOF data was found.
Print using the DPOF data?
Note: If your camera supports PictBridge or direct printing, you can connect it to PictureMate and use the camera to control printing. See Printing From a PictBridge-Enabled Camera for more information.

By pressing the Menu button, you can choose from a variety of layouts, add the time or date, fix photos that are too light or dark, and control many other aspects of printing.
Note: The features described in this section do not change or replace the original digital photo file; they customize only the print(s) you make at that time.
See these sections for instructions:
Printing Photos in Black and White or Sepia
You can print just part of a photo, cropping out the area that you don't want.
Note: Cropping is only available when you select individual photos (Print Some), print by date, or print photos with frames.
This indicates the area that will print; the area outside the box will be cropped out.
Note: You can use the arrow buttons to move the box up or down and select the exact portion of your image that will be printed.
By default, your photos are printed at the full 4 × 6 size, without borders. If you want to print pictures with white borders or place several small photos on one sheet of paper, you can use the Layout menu.
Note: When you print without borders, your images are automatically expanded and cropped around the edges. This may cause part of your image to be cut off. You can control the amount of expansion and cropping; see Adjusting Borderless Expansion and Cropping for instructions.
You have six choices:
Borderless
Border
Double (2 per sheet with margins)
Index
Half Page (2 per sheet without margins)
Photo ID (4 per sheet)
Note: For the fastest printing, select Border.
To print two or more photos on one sheet, select multiple copies or multiple photos. For example, if you want 3 "ID size" photos of one image and 4 of another, you would select 3 copies for photo A and 4 copies for photo B. Then choose Photo ID as the layout setting. Your photos will be printed on 2 sheets of paper as shown:
Press the OK button. You see the Print Confirmation showing your layout:
Note: If you are printing portrait-oriented photos, they may appear to be rotated on the Print Confirmation screen, but they will print correctly.
You can print your photo in black and white or in a sepia tone even when the original is in color. Your image itself is not changed.
Note: A sepia print has a brownish tone, for an old-fashioned photo look.
The color effect you select will be applied to all your photos. When you no longer want to use it, you need to go back to the Color Effect menu and select a different setting.
You can change the number of copies or press the Menu button to change additional settings.
You can add the date and/or time your photo was originally taken to the bottom right corner of your print.
Note: The date and time come from your camera, not from the printer. If this information is incorrect, adjust the time and/or date setting on your camera.
PictureMate lets you correct the color and improve the image quality of your photos without using a computer. Two basic types of adjustments are available:
If your camera supports PRINT Image Matching (P.I.M.) or Exif Print, the printer's P.I.M. or Exif Print setting automatically adjusts your photos for the best results.
The PhotoEnhance setting improves your photos' colors and increases contrast and sharpness. It may correct images that are too dark, too light, or backlit.
If your photos are too light or too dark, you can manually adjust their brightness or control the saturation and sharpness.
If you want, you can make manual adjustments while P.I.M., Exif Print or PhotoEnhance are turned on in order to fine-tune your automatic settings.
Note: These settings affect only your printed pictures. They do not change your original image files.
Note: The setting you select will remain in effect and apply to all photos when you use the current photo selection option (Print Some, Print All, and so on).
Manual corrections apply only to individual photos. You can select different settings for each photo in a print job.
You can remove the digital noise that is included in JPEG files or enhance low resolution images.
You can change the way PictureMate works by using the Setup menu. You can set the following preferences:
Selecting Your Display Preferences
Adjusting Borderless Expansion and Cropping
Determining Whether to Keep Selections After Printing
Adjusting the Photo Viewer Screen
Selecting Your Personal Settings
Printing Without Frames From Your Camera
When you select Print Some and press OK, you see your photos displayed one by one, with information about the layout setting and number of sheets required for printing.
You can change this and have your photos displayed without information, or display 9 photos at a time. You can choose from the following three display preferences:
When you print borderless pictures, your images are automatically expanded and cropped. If you find that too much of your pictures are cut off around the edges, you can adjust the amount of expansion and cropping.
If you see white lines on the edges of your photos after printing with the Min setting, repeat steps 1 to 3 and select Mid or Max.
You can decide whether to keep the print settings and photos you selected or return to your default settings after you print.
If the screen is too light or too dark, you can adjust it.
You can reset the PictureMate settings to the ones you prefer. The settings you choose will become your "defaults," but you will still be able to change them for individual print jobs.
You can change the following settings:
The Top Screen setting determines which selection mode (or print mode) is highlighted on the photo selection menu when you first turn on PictureMate.
You can return your personal settings back to the original PictureMate default settings.
After you restore the factory settings, you see a message asking if you want to change your personal default settings. See Selecting Your Personal Settings.
If you have an Epson digital camera that supports Print Image Framer (P.I.F.), you can select frames on your camera and print them with your photos on PictureMate. If you want to print your photos without the frames, you can turn off the Enable P.I.F. Relation setting.
If you saved your photos to a CD, Zip disk, or flash memory (thumb) drive, you can connect the drive to the back of PictureMate and print just like you do when you insert a memory card.
You can also print photos from a CD that you get from a photo processing lab. (Images should be in JPEG or uncompressed Tiff file format. Some CDs may not work.)
Note: If a memory card is inserted, the printer will read photos from the card, not from an external drive.
If you used PictureMate to save photos on the same Zip disk or flash memory drive more than once, it will have multiple folders. You see this message:
Press or to choose the folder where your photos are stored, then press OK. The most recently saved folder has the largest number.
PictureMate counts the photos on your drive.
You can connect your PictBridge- or USB DP-enabled digital camera to the back of PictureMate and use the camera to control printing. (Check your camera manual to see if it supports the PictBridge standard or USB DP.)
Before you connect the camera, you can select the layout you want to use for printing the photos in the camera.
Note: If a memory card is inserted, the printer will read photos from the card, not from a camera.
To send and print photos wirelessly from Bluetooth-enabled devices-such as digital still cameras, digital video cameras, PDAs, mobile phones, and computers-you can use the optional Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter, available from Epson.
The Epson Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter (part# C12C824142) is available from your local retailer or the Epson Store at www.epsonstore.com (U.S. sales only) or call 800-GO-EPSON (800-463-7766). In Canada, please call (800) 463-7766 for dealer referral. In Latin America, call your nearest Epson sales office as indicated in Where To Get Help or visit www.latin.epson.com.
While PictureMate complies with the Bluetooth specification, it is not guaranteed to work with all devices enabled with Bluetooth wireless technology.
The communication range of the Epson Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter is approximately 33 feet (10 meters); however, this may vary depending on conditions, including obstacles between devices, signal quality, magnetic fields, static electricity and electromagnetic interference, software, operating system, reception sensitivity, and antenna performance.
The following profiles are available for the adapter: Basic Imaging Profile (BIP), Hardcopy Cable Replacement Profile (HCRP), and Basic Printing Profile (BPP).
Caution: Do not remove the adapter while it is communicating with another device or while PictureMate is printing (while the blue light is flashing). Doing so may cause PictureMate to malfunction.
See these sections for instructions on printing with the Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter:
Caution: Do not connect the Bluetooth Photo Print adapter while PictureMate is printing; this may cause PictureMate to malfunction.
Note: The Bluetooth Photo Print Adapter light comes on for one second. If the light does not turn on, disconnect the adapter, then reconnect it.
Printing starts automatically.
If you are trying to print a large or complex image, you may see an error message on the PictureMate screen. Try printing the image from a memory card or from your computer instead of Bluetooth.
Note: To print from a device with encryption, to use pairing or a passkey, or to adjust Bluetooth settings, see Choosing Bluetooth Settings.
Make sure PictureMate isn't printing, then pull the adapter out from the USB connector, as shown.
Caution: Do not remove the adapter when the blue adapter light is flashing; this may cause PictureMate to malfunction.
If necessary, use the PictureMate buttons to choose settings for Bluetooth wireless communication. You may need to enter a passkey for PictureMate or turn on encryption, depending on the settings for the Bluetooth-enabled device from which you want to print.
