Improving Print Quality

Aligning the Print Head

For Windows
For Mac OS X

If you notice a misalignment of vertical lines or horizontal banding, you may be able to solve this problem from your computer using the Print Head Alignment utility in your printer software. Epson recommends aligning the print head automatically. To align the print head automatically, select Automatic in the on-screen instruction.

Refer to the appropriate section below.

Note:
Do not press the paper button to cancel printing while printing a test pattern with the Print Head Alignment utility.

For Windows

Follow the steps below to align the print head using the Print Head Alignment utility.

Make sure that three sheets of Letter or A4 size Epson Photo Quality Ink Jet Paper are loaded into the sheet feeder.

Note:
Make sure that paper is not loaded into the front path and the front path cover is closed before using the Print Head Alignment utility.

Access the printer software.
Accessing the Printer Software for Windows

Click the Maintenance tab, then click the Print Head Alignment button.

Follow the on-screen instructions to align the print head.

For Mac OS X

Follow the steps below to align the print head using the Print Head Alignment utility.

Make sure that three sheets of Letter or A4 size Epson Photo Quality Ink Jet Paper are loaded into the sheet feeder.

Note:
Make sure that paper is not loaded into the front manual feed slot and the front printer cover is closed before using the Print Head Alignment utility.

Access the EPSON Printer Utility dialog box.
Accessing the Printer Software for Mac OS X

Select your printer, then click OK in the Printer List window.

Click the Print Head Alignment button in the Utility dialog box.

Follow the on-screen instructions to align the print head.
