Printing From an Application
After you create a document in a software program, follow these steps to print it using the basic printer settings:
- From the File menu, click Print. You see a Print window like this one:
- Make sure EPSON Stylus Photo RX500 is selected.
- Click the Preferences or Properties button.
(If you see a Setup, Printer, or Options button, click it. Then click Preferences or Properties on the next screen.)
- Select the following settings on the Main tab in your printer settings window:
Note: For more information about printer settings, click the ? or Help button.
The Quality Options settings on this screen give you the best combination of quality and print speed for most prints. For the highest print quality (Photo RPM) on selected papers, click the Advanced button on the Main tab. Then see Customizing Windows Print Settings for instructions on selecting Photo RPM.
- You return to the Print window. Click OK or Print to start printing.
During printing, this window appears and shows the progress of your print job. You can use the buttons to cancel, pause, or resume printing. You can also see how much ink you have left.
Selecting Default Settings
Your printer settings apply only to the program you're currently using. If you want, you can change the Windows default printer settings for all your programs.
- Right-click the
printer icon in the lower right corner of your screen (taskbar).
- Select the default settings you want for all your applications, then click OK.
You can still change the printer settings in your program, if necessary.
Customizing Windows Print Settings
You can use advanced settings for color matching, printing at a higher resolution, or selecting a variety of special effects and layouts.
For more information about advanced settings, or instructions on saving them as a group so you can reuse them later, click the Help or ? button.
- On the Main tab, click the Advanced button in the bottom right corner of the window. If you see a message that advanced settings are recommended for experienced users, click Continue.
You see this screen:
- Make any of the following settings, as necessary:
- Select print quality in the print quality drop-down list. For best print quality on certain paper types, select Photo RPM (5760 × 1440 dpi).
Note: Printing takes longer when you select Photo RPM.
- Select your paper size from the paper size drop-down list.
- Select the print orientation.
- Click Reverse Order if you're printing a multi-page document and you want your printout to be stacked in the correct order.
- Select High Speed for fast, bidirectional printing.

- Select Edge Smoothing to improve the print quality of low-resolution images.
- Click Print Preview to see a preview of the printout before you print.
- Select Color Management options, as necessary.

Use the PhotoEnhance settings to improve color on low-resolution images, reduce noise and jagged edges in digital camera images, or add special effects, such as a sepia tint. ICM settings let you turn off color adjustment in the printer driver so that you can use standard or custom ICC/ICM profiles.
- Click Show this screen first if you want to use the Advanced screen each time you access your printer driver.
- Once you've finished selecting advanced settings, you can:
- Click OK to save your settings, return to the Print window, and print.
