Caution:

Hold the film by the edges or use gloves.
Touching the film surface with bare hands can leave fingerprints or
other traces on the film. |

Note

 |
- In the Full Auto Mode, you can scan 35 mm
color film and 35 mm color slides. If you want to scan black and
white negative film, switch to Home Mode or Professional Mode.
|
|
Removing the reflective document mat
To scan film strips or slides, you need to remove the reflective
document mat from the scanner cover.

Most illustrations shown in this section are
for the Perfection 2480 Photo, so they may be different from the Perfection
2580 Photo. The instructions are the same, except as noted. |

Make sure the cover cable is connected to the scanner.

Before connecting or disconnecting the cover cable, make sure the scanner is turned off.
|
|
 |
Open the scanner cover and slide up the reflective document mat gently
to remove it. |
Perfection 2480 Photo
The Perfection 2480 Photo has a built-in transparency unit
and a film holder that you can use to scan film or slides.

Note

- Before scanning film, use a soft cloth to
wipe the inside of the scanner cover and the document table.
|
|
 |
- Make sure EPSON Scan is installed correctly,
and your computer and scanner are turned on.
|
|

Make sure the scanner and your computer are connected with the USB cable.
|
|
 |
- Make sure the
Start
light is green and not flashing.
|
|
35 mm film strips
 |
Slide the film strip into the 35 mm film holder with the shiny base side
facing down. Your images and any wording on the film strip should appear
backwards on the side that faces up. |

Note:

Hold the edge of the film gently or use gloves
to touch the film; otherwise you may damage the film. |

Scanning the first 3 frames of the film strip:
Place the film holder on the document table so that it is aligned with the
lower left corner. Make sure the tab labelled "A" on the film holder fits
into the area labelled "A" on the scanner. Then close the scanner cover.

Scanning the last 3 frames of the film strip:
Place the film holder on the document table so that it is aligned with the lower
left corner. Make sure the tab labelled "B" on the film holder fits into the
area labelled "B" on the scanner. Then close the scanner cover..
35 mm slides

Place the film holder on the document table so that it is aligned with
the lower left corner. Make sure the tab labelled "C" on the film holder
fits into the area labelled "C" on the scanner. |

Place one or two slides in the 35 mm slide holder with the shiny base
side facing down. Your image should appear backwards on the side that faces
up. The top of landscape- or portrait-oriented images should face the back
of the scanner. Then close the scanner cover. |
Storing the film holder
When you're not using the film holder, you can store it
inside the scanner cover.

Open the scanner cover and remove the reflective document mat. |
 |
Slide the film holder into the inside of the scanner cover. |
 |
Replace the reflective document mat.

Note:

- Before scanning film, use a soft cloth to
wipe the document table glass. Do not wipe the inside of the Auto
Film Loader.

- Make sure EPSON Scan is installed correctly
and your computer and scanner are turned on.

Do not disconnect the cover cable while the scanner is turned on.
|

Make sure the scanner and your computer are connected with the USB cable.

35 mm film strips
The Perfection 2580 Photo comes with an Auto Film Loader
on the scanner cover that loads a film strip for scanning automatically.
Film condition
Make sure your film strip meets the following requirements
before loading it:
- The film is 35 mm wide and 74 to 232 mm long.
- The film strip contains at least 2 photos, but no more than
6.
- The film has no bends or curls..
- The film has no stickers on it.
If there is a sticker on the film strip away from an image, you can carefully
cut off the part with the sticker.
- The film is not infrared film.

The film is not rippled or wrinkled.
- The holes on the edges of film are not damaged.

Make sure nothing is on the document table and
the reflective document mat is removed. |

Press and release the back of the auto film loader cover to open it.
|
 |
Flip out the metal film guide and press it down until it clicks into
place. |

Always open the film guide whenever you use the Auto Film Loader, no matter how short a film strip is; otherwise, it may cause a film jam.
|

Place a film strip into the auto film loader with its shiny base side
facing down. Your images and any wording on the film strip should appear
backwards on the side that faces up. Slowly slide the film into the loader.
Let go of the film when the scanner begins to automatically feed it into
position. |

- Hold the edge of the film gently or use

- When loading starts, let go of the film;
otherwise, it may cause a film jam.

- Do not touch the film during scanning.

- Do not close the auto film loader cover
during scanning.

Do not press the
Eject button while scanning. The Eject button does not work until scanning is completed.

- If the film doesn't feed into the auto film
loader, wait 10 seconds and try again.
|
|
Ejecting film
When you finish scanning, eject the film from the Auto Film Loader.
 |
Press the Eject button.
|
 |
Remove the film after the Start
light turns on. |

Note:
|
 |  |
- Do not pull out the film. Wait until it
is ejected automatically.
|
|
 |  |
- Do not turn off the scanner before ejecting
film. If you do so accidentally, turn on the scanner again and
press the
Eject button.
|
|
 |
Flip the metal film guide back in and close the auto film loader cover.
|
 |
Note:
|
 |
If the Start
light is flashing red, film may have jammed. See Film
jams for details. |
|
35 mm slide
You can scan a 35 mm slide using the 35 mm slide holder.
 |
Note:
|
 |
You cannot scan negative slides.
|
|
 |
Place the 35 mm slide holder on the top of the document table.
Make sure the tab labelled "D" on the slide holder fits into the area labelled
"D" on the scanner. |
 |
Place the slide in the slide holder with its shiny base side facing down.
Your image should appear backwards on the side that faces up. For landscape-oriented
slides, place the top of the image toward the left. For portrait-oriented
slides, place the top of the image toward the top of the scanner. Then close
the scanner cover. |

Do not place the slide sideways. |

Storing the slide
holder
When you're not using the slide holder, you can store it
inside the scanner cover.
 |
Open the scanner cover and remove the reflective document mat. |
 |
Slide the slide holder into the scanner cover. |
 |
Replace the reflective document mat.
