How To Scan

Scanning Directly from EPSON Scan

If you want to save the scanned images without editing then, start EPSON Scan as described below. After scanning images, they are automatically saved as files in the folder of your choice.

Start EPSON Scan.

For Windows users:
Click Start, point to EPSON Scan and select EPSON Scan.

For users of Mac OS 8.6 to 9.x:
Select EPSON Scan from the Apple menu.

For Mac OS X users:
Double-click the EPSON Scan icon in the Applications folder.

Note:
If the Show this dialog box before next scan check box is unchecked, or if your last scan was in Home Mode or Professional Mode, the File Save Settings dialog box does not appear automatically and EPSON Scan starts. To open this dialog box, click the arrow to the right of the Scan button and select File Save Settings.

When you see the File Save Settings box, specify a location where the scanned images will be saved. To change the default location, click Browse (in Windows) or Choose (for Macintosh) and select the desired folder.

Type a file name (prefix) and a 3-digit number (start number). When you scan multiple images they are numbered sequentially, starting with the number you enter in the start number box.

Note:
  • For Windows users, the following characters cannot be used in the prefix.
    \, /, :, ., *, ?, ", < >|
  • For Macintosh users, you cannot use a colon (:) in the prefix.
  • The start number must be 3 digits.

Select a file format. The following table lists file formats and common uses. Depending on the format you choose, the Options button may be available for detailed settings for saving images.

Format
(File Extension)

Explanation

BITMAP (*.BMP)

Standard image file format used in Windows. Most Windows applications (including word processing applications) can read and prepare images in this format.

PICT (*.PCT)

Standard image file format for Macintosh. Almost all of the software applications for the Macintosh (such as word processing software) support the PICT file format.

JPEG (*.JPG)

Compressed file format. The amount of compression can be adjusted. However, higher compression results in lower the image quality and original data cannot be restored. In addition, the quality deteriorates every time the data is saved. The TIFF format is recommended in cases where image modification and retouching are required.

TIFF (*.TIF)

File format for exchanging data among many applications such as graphic and DTP software. When scanning black & white images, you can specify the compression type.

Multi-TIFF (*.TIF)

TIFF format where multiple pages are saved to the same file, When you scan documents using an Automatic Document Feeder, they all stored in the same file. Not all applications support this format.

PDF (*.PDF)

To use PDF documents, you usually need Adobe Acrobat Reader or Acrobat. (In Mac OS X, you can open PDF documents in preview.) When you scan documents using an Automatic Document Feeder, multiple pages are saved to a single file.

Click OK. The following window appears.

EPSON Scan automatically previews the images, recognizes the image type, optimizes the images, and then starts scanning.

The scanned image is automatically saved in the location that you chose.
