Improving Print Quality

Aligning the Print Head

For Windows
For Mac OS 9
For Mac OS X
Using the control panel buttons

If you notice a misalignment of vertical lines or horizontal banding, you may be able to solve this problem from your computer using the Print Head Alignment utility in your printer software and from this printer itself by using the control panel buttons. Refer to the appropriate section below.

Note:
Make sure the CD/DVD tray is not inserted in the printer and the CD/DVD guide is up before using the Print Head Alignment utility.

For Windows

Follow the steps below to align the print head using the Print Head Alignment utility.

Check that no warnings or errors are displayed on the LCD panel.

Make sure that A4 or Letter size plain paper is loaded in the sheet feeder.

Access the printer software.

Click the Maintenance tab, then click the Print Head Alignment button.

Follow the on-screen instructions to align the print head.

For Mac OS 9

Follow the steps below to align the print head using the Print Head Alignment utility.

Check that no warnings or errors are displayed on the LCD panel.

Make sure that A4 or Letter size plain paper is loaded in the sheet feeder.

Access the Print or Page Setup dialog box.

Click the  Utility icon button, then click the Print Head Alignment button.

Follow the on-screen instructions to align the print head.

For Mac OS X

Follow the steps below to align the print head using the Print Head Alignment utility.

Check that no warnings or errors are displayed on the LCD panel.

Make sure that A4 or Letter size plain paper is loaded in the sheet feeder.

Access the EPSON Printer Utility dialog box.

Click the Print Head Alignment button in the Utility dialog box.

Follow the on-screen instructions to align the print head.

Using the control panel buttons

Follow the steps below to align the print head using the control panel buttons.

Check that no warnings or errors are displayed on the LCD panel.

Press the  maintenance button in Advanced mode.

Press button to position the cursor at Print Head Alignment and press the OK button.

Follow the instructions displayed on the LCD panel.

From the alignment pattern in set #1 on the printed test sheet, choose the vertical line that is aligned best. Press the or button to select the corresponding line number and press the OK button.

Repeat step 5 for the alignment patterns in sets #2, #3 and #4.

Press the OK button to finish.
