Printing from an Application

After you create a document in a software program, follow these steps to print it using the basic printer settings:

  1. Open the File menu and select Page Setup. You see the Page Setup window:


  2. Select Stylus Photo R380 in the Format for pop-up menu.
  3. Select your Paper Size. For borderless printing, select a paper size with the Sheet Feeder - Borderless option. See Printing Borderless Photos for details.
  4. Select portrait or landscape as the orientation setting.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Open the File menu and select Print. You see a window like this one:


  7. Select Stylus Photo R380 in the Printer pop-up menu.
  8. Select Print Settings from the pop-up menu.
  9. Select the following Print Settings as necessary:

    For more information about printer settings, click the ? button.

    The Quality setting on this screen gives you the best combination of quality and speed for most prints. For the highest print quality (Photo RPM) on selected papers, click Advanced and see Customizing Macintosh Print Settings.

    The automatic photo correction feature is not available with Mac OS X.

  11. Depending on your settings, you can choose other options from the pop-up menu:
    • Copies & Pages: Select the number of copies you want or a page range.
    • Layout: Select page layout options.
    • Scheduler: Schedule your print job to print at a later time.
    • Paper Handling: Select page printing options, such as Reverse print order.
    • ColorSync or Color Management: Select ColorSync® or adjust the color controls or gamma setting, or turn off color adjustments in the printer software.
    • Cover page: Print a cover page before your document or photo.
    • Expansion: Reduce or enlarge the image size for borderless printing. See Printing Borderless Photos for details.
    • Extension Settings: Select a wider platen gap if ink smears on sheets or envelopes.
    • Summary: View a list of all your selections.
  12. To save your selections for future use, select Save As from the Presets pop-up menu.
  13. Click Print.
  14. To monitor the progress of your print job, click the printer icon when it appears in the dock on the bottom of your desktop.
  15. If you're using OS X 10.2.x, click the Print Center icon instead, then double-click Stylus Photo R380 in the Printer List window.

    You see a screen like this:



    If necessary, you can do one of the following while monitoring the progress of your print job:

    • Click the print job, then click Delete to delete it
    • Click the print job, then click Hold to pause printing
    • Click a print job marked "Hold" and click Resume to resume printing
  16. When you're finished, close the printer window or Print Center.

Customizing Macintosh Print Settings

You can use advanced settings for color matching or printing at a higher resolution.

  1. On the Print Settings window, click Advanced and choose these settings as necessary:


  2. Note:
    For the highest quality on selected papers, you can select Photo RPM (5760 × 1440) from the Print Quality pop-up menu. When you select Photo RPM, printing will take longer.

  3. To save your selections for future use, select Save As from the Presets pop-up menu.
  4. Click Print.

Printing Multiple Photos or Pages Per Sheet

Note:
This feature is not available when you are printing borderless.

  1. Open the File menu and select Page Setup. You see a window like this one:


  2. Select Stylus Photo R380 in the Format for pop-up menu.
  3. Select your paper size and orientation settings, then click OK.
  4. Open the File menu and select Print. You see a window like this one:


  5. Select Stylus Photo R380 in the Printer pop-up menu.
  6. Select Layout from the pop-up menu. You see a window like this one:


  7. Select from the following settings:
    • Pages per Sheet: Prints multiple images or document pages on a single piece of paper. Choose from 1, 2, 4, 6, 9, or 16.
    • Layout Direction: Specifies the order in which the pages will be printed on the sheet of paper.
    • Border: Prints a border around the pages printed on each sheet. Choose from None, Single hairline, Single thin line, Double hairline, or Double thin line.
  8. Select Print Settings from the pop-up menu. You see a window like this one:


  9. Select the appropriate Media Type, Color, and Mode settings.
  10. Click Print.

Cancelling Printing

Using the Buttons on the Printer

Press the Stop/Clear Settings button to cancel your print job from the printer.

Using Your Computer

When you start printing, a printer icon appears in the dock on the bottom of your desktop.

  1. Mac OS X 10.3.x or higher: Click the printer icon when it appears in the dock.
  2. Mac OS X 10.2.x: Click the Print Center icon when it appears in the dock, then double-click Stylus Photo R380 in the Printer List window.

  3. Click the print job, then click Delete to delete it.
