The sections below describe the system requirements necessary to install and use EPSON Stylus RIP Professional 2.0 as a print server or a client.

Print Server requirements

Your computer needs to meet the following system requirements to use Stylus RIP Professional and act as the print server, whether in a standalone or network environment:

• Be a Power Macintosh or iMac series computer running one of the following operating systems:
  Mac OS 8.6
  Mac OS 9.x
  Mac OS 10.2.4 or later.

• Be an Intel^® Pentium^® III 500 MHz or Intel^® Celeron™ 800 MHz PC running one of the following operating systems:
  Windows XP Professional/Home Edition
  Windows 2000 Server/Professional
  Windows Millennium Edition
  Windows 98 Second Edition.

• Has at least 64 MB of RAM. 128 MB of RAM is recommended. Also, any memory requirements for optional software must be added to this total.

• Has at least 500 MB of available disk space. As the number of files in the jobs folder increases, the amount of required disk space also increases.

• Has a CD-ROM drive.

• Be able to connect to the printer through one of the following interfaces:
  Parallel
  USB
  IEEE1394
  Ethernet

Note:

You can only use interfaces supported by the printer to connect to it.

• Be able to connect the PS Server and client using one of the following protocols:
  TCP/IP (Mac OS 8.6/9.x, Mac OS X, Windows)
  AppleTalk (Mac OS 8.6/9.x, Mac OS X)
  PS Port Monitor (Windows)
  Rendezvous (Mac OS X)

Note:

If you do not use the printer or printer's interface card as the print server, EPSON recommends you directly connect the printer and host computer by either the USB or FireWire interface. Use of the USB or FireWire interface connection decreases the amount of traffic on your network.

Stylus RIP Professional can use all the interfaces supported by the EPSON Standard Windows Driver. Before installing Stylus RIP Professional, it is necessary to connect the printer you want to use and install the EPSON Standard Windows Driver.

Client requirements

Your computer needs to have the following minimum configuration to function as a Stylus RIP Professional client:

• Be a Power Macintosh or iMac series computer running one of the following operating systems:
  Mac OS 8.6
  Mac OS 9.x
  Mac OS 10.2.4 or later.

• Be an Intel^® Pentium^® III 500 MHz or Intel^® Celeron™ 800 MHz PC running one of the following operating systems:
  Windows XP Professional/Home Edition
  Windows 2000 Server/Professional
  Windows NT 4.0
  Windows Millennium Edition
  Windows 98 Second Edition
  Windows 95/98.

• Has an AppleTalk network connection with the PS Server, if your computer is a Macintosh.

• Has 8 MB of RAM to install the Stylus RIP Professional client software.
