You
cannot scan film in Full Auto mode or from the Thumbnail Preview
When scanning film, EPSON Scan may not be able to detect
the images, or may crop or group them in an unexpected way, as in the following
examples.
- Images with a dark background may be cropped irregularly.
- Images with a very bright background may be cropped irregularly.
- Color negative films with extremely light or dark base color
(background) cannot be cropped regularly.
- A small area around the edges of each image may be cropped.
- When both panorama and regular size film images are scanned,
the panorama images may be cropped irregularly.
Try one or more of the following solutions.
- Make sure the film is placed correctly in the film holder
or Auto Film Loader, and that the film holder is properly positioned on the
document table.
- Preview using Normal Preview and create marquees on the
area you want to scan.
-
In the Configuration dialog box, adjust the thumbnail cropping area using the Thumbnail Cropping Area slider.
- Make sure the reflective document mat is removed when you
scan film.
- Make sure Document Type is set to an appropriate setting
for your film type in Home or Professional Mode.
-
For Perfection 2580 users:
If you are scanning using the 35 mm slide holder, make sure the slide is placed
in the correct position.

The colors of negative film preview images look strange
Try one or more of the following solutions in EPSON Scan:
-
Make sure Document Type is set to an appropriate setting for your film type.
- When images are previewed in Normal Preview, the dark area
around the film (such as the frame of the film holder) is perceived as white.
This alters the exposure of the scanning area and causes images to appear
darker. Click and drag the mouse pointer over an area and click the
Zoom button to see the color correctly.
-
Preview images in Thumbnail Preview.

A Newton ring appears in the scanned image
A Newton ring is a ring-shaped pattern of stripes that appears
on scanned images when you scan transparent materials. It may occur if the film
is curled.
Place the film with the base side facing up and preview
it using Thumbnail Preview. Then reverse the previewed image using the
Mirror button.

A line appears on the previewed image
A line may appear on your previewed image if the document
table is dirty. Use a soft cloth to wipe the document table.
