Print dialog box settings

Note:

Manu available options in the Print dialog box are standard features of Mac OS X. See your Mac Help system for details.

Print dialog box settings

Allows you to make the appropriate Printer and Presets settings that you want to use for printing.

Note:

Always match the Format for setting in the Page Setup dialog box and the Printer setting in the Print dialog box. Otherwise the data may not be printed correctly.

Copies & Pages

Allows you to make the appropriate Copies, Collated, and Pages settings that you want to use for printing.

Layout

Allows you to make the appropriate Pages per Sheet, Layout Direction, and Border settings that you want to use for printing.

Output Options

Clear the Save as File check box when you want to print.

Print Settings

Media Type

Determines what other settings are available in the Print dialog box, so you should always make this setting first. Select the Media Type setting that matched the paper that is loaded in the printer. To find what media type you are using, find your media in the Media Type Setting list.

Color

Advanced B&W Photo

To access the Advanced B&W Photo settings select Advanced B&W Photo as the Color setting. Then, from the pop-up menu, select Color Management. For more details see the following section.

Note:

Advanced B&W Photo is available depending on the ink cartridge installed (Photo Black or Matte Black), the media type setting, and the print quality setting. For most media types, select Best Photo or Photo RPM as the print quality setting.

Automatic mode

Provides the quickest and easiest way to start printing. The printer software takes care of all detailed settings based on the current Media Type and Color settings.

Note:

Depending on the media selected in the Media Type list (while Automatic is selected), a slider appears to the right of the Mode options, which lets you choose Quality or Speed level. Select Quality when print quality is more important than speed.

Advanced mode

Selecting Advanced as the Mode setting gives you complete control over your printing environment. Use these settings to experiment with new printing ideas or to fine-tune a range of print settings to meet your individual needs.

Print Quality

Select the printing quality that you want to use for printing.

High Speed

Activates bidirectional printing so your printer prints both left-to-right and right-to-left. High Speed mode speeds up printing, but decreases print quality.

Mirror Image

Prints an image as it would appear in a mirror. Text and graphics appear reversed.

Finest Detail

Depending on the Print Quality setting you make, you can select the Finest Detail check box to print text, solid graphics, and line art with very sharp edges. Finest Detail takes longer to print and increases your memory requirements. Also, you may not be able to print some larger images, and some patterns may not print correctly. If you experience problems printing in this mode, turn it off or add more memory.

Some settings may not be available, depending on the Media Type, Color, and Print Quality settings that you make.

When Advanced B&W Photo is selected as the Color setting in Print Settings

If you have not done so already, select Color Management from the pop-up menu. Here you can use the following tools to make detailed adjustments to your photos.

Color Toning

Select one of the following settings.

Tone

Adjusts the tone by five levels.

Slide bars

The tone enhancement slide bars adjust the following options. Drag the slide bar to the right or left to adjust the settings. You can also enter a value in the boxes next to the slide bars.

Highlight Point Shift

Select this check box to add a little more ink to white areas to give it a glossy look.

Color circle

Click in the color circle to adjust the color tone of your black-and-white photo. You can also adjust the color tone by entering a value in the Horizontal and Vertical text boxes.

Default

Click the Default button to return the settings to their default values.

Color Management

Selecting Color Management from the pop-up menu gives you control over the color matching and adjustment methods provided with the printer driver. Use these settings to experiment with new printing ideas or to fine-tune a range of print settings to meet your individual needs.

The Color Management controls shown above are available when Color is selected as the Color setting in Print Settings.

Select this setting to use the color matching and adjustment methods provided with the printer driver.

Mode

Gamma

To control image contrast by modifying the midtones and mid-level grays.

Slide bars

The color enhancement slide bars adjust the indicated options in a range of -25% to +25%. Drag the slide bar to the right or left with your mouse to adjust the settings. You can also type a value from -25% to +25% in the boxes next to the slide bars.

ColorSync

Automatically adjusts the printout colors to match the colors on your monitor.

Off (No Color Adjustment)

Prints without any color adjustment.

Expansion

Using the slider, you can control the amount of the image that extends beyond the edges of the paper during borderless printing.

For most print jobs, selecting Max is recommended in order to eliminate margins on all sides of the paper. Moving the slider towards Min decreases the amount of the image that extends beyond the edges of the paper; however, as this amount decreases, margins may begin to appear on one or more sides of the paper.

Extension Setting

Thick paper

Adjusts the size of the gap between the platen and the print head. Select this check box if your printouts are rubbed while printing.

Paper Configuration

Select Paper Configuration from the pop-up menu to access the Color Density and Drying Time per Print Head Pass slide bars. These allow you to make the following detailed paper settings.

Color Density

Use this to adjust the strength of color density when printing on non-EPSON media. You can adjust the density by dragging the scroll bar to the left or right, or by entering a value between -50 and 50 in the text box.

Drying Time per Print Head Pass

Use this to add a waiting time when the print head reaches the end of every pass to allow the ink to dry. You can adjust the setting by dragging the scroll bar to the left or right, or by entering a value between 0 and 50 in the text box.
